The "Down Low" with a Twist - Debut Novel "Am I My Sister's Keeper?"

We're excited about announcing the release of new author, S. Stephens' debut novel, Am I My Sister’s Keeper? that spotlights the "down low" phenomena from a lesbian point of view.

How much of life do you live for other people, defining yourself by their expectations? And is it selfish to live only for you? These are the questions that new author, S. Stephens answers in her debut novel, Am I My Sister’s Keeper? For a very long time, the media has addressed the controversy and hysteria of the down low syndrome regarding men who live a double life but not much attention has been placed on the women who also live double lives until now. Through this thought provoking and inspirational story, author S. Stephens reaches far beyond any label or stereotype and delves into the depths of why
"people" are willing to deny their true selves for the sake of acceptance from others and how that desire for acceptance can lead to the destruction of not only one person but many others.

With the collaboration of local Atlanta book cover designer, Keith Anderson of Marion Designs (Book Covers designed for Zane, Vickie Stringer, Laurinda D. Brown, and many others), S. Stephens has created an attractive, intriguing, and inspiring work of art. The book from the inside/out, promises to be an aesthetic delight for the eyes, mind, and soul of its readers.

Am I My Sister’s Keeper? is available now on the author’s official web site at www.sstephens.info, at the publisher’s web site at www.iUniverse.com, in bookstores in Atlanta (Charis Books and More) and DC (Lambda Rising), and at various online bookstores (www.Amazon.com, www.Bn.com, and many others).

Sonja Stephens has written a mournful yet optimistic story about overcoming the expectations and pressures of society. She explores one woman's turmoil as she struggles with who she is and the emotional havoc it caused in her life. The secondary characters were pivotal to the story, in their attitudes about people's views of alternative lifestyles. The writing, characterizations, and pace of the story are good. I applaud Ms. Stephens for this honest, emotional, and penetrating view of family influence and self-worth: she is an author who bears watching.

Am I My Sister's Keeper? is a heart-wrenching tale of a woman who sacrifices her heart and soul to please her family. It takes her awhile but Elise figures out that being herself, without qualms, takes true courage. S. Stephens writes a true story with intensity and a great ring of truth. The plot is carried out smoothly to a climax that will keep the reader hanging on for dear life. Make room on your bookshelf for Stephens as she is an author worth reading every single time.
